Kimberly Harrison has been teaching voice
since 2001, and enjoys teaching all levels and ages. She’s gifted at assessing what an individual needs to perform at
their best, and accelerates progress by addressing vocal, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles. Kimberly also works gently
yet powerfully with stage fright, perceptual challenges, and physical tension. Her exuberance makes learning easy and fun.
Having seen first hand how traditional vocal techniques often fail to connect the mechanics
of the voice with the sensory experience of the voice, Kimberly emphasizes the need to develop a deep relationship
with the sensations we experience when singing or speaking. “Learning to OWN our voices through body/mind awareness
is essential for singers, public speakers - really anyone who uses their voice in any way.”
Kimberly has sung with renowned vocal and orchestral ensembles, performed title roles in opera and
music theater (including Anne, Merry Wives of Windsor; Yum-Yum, Mikado; Cinderella, Into the Woods),
and premiered multiple works by contemporary composers. She co-founded the early music ensemble Cantilena, and is artistic
director of Arama Music, an independent record label dedicated to crossover and experimental styles, including pop, jazz,
medieval, renaissance, and Eastern Indian. Kimberly is currently exploring fusions of these genres through songwriting, collaboration,
recording, and performance. Her first solo album of original material is underway.
Ms. Harrison’s academic background includes a B.A. in Music and a Master’s Degree in
Vocal Performance. She studied intensively for two years with legendary singer and vocal technician Phyllis Curtin. Other
teachers include singers Kenneth Cox and Per Bristow, and composers Ricardo Iznaola, Shirish Korde, and Osvaldo Golijov. She
also trained at the Wesley Balk Opera/Music Theater Institute, and the Tanglewood summer music festival. In addition, Kimberly
studies and draws from numerous modalities, including Alexander Technique, meditation, Continuum, yoga, dance, and holistic
nutrition.
