Music Sight Reading - A Class for Singers

Sight Reading for Singers

Sight Reading and Sight Singing refer to the ability to read and sing a piece of music previously unseen and unrehearsed.  We offer a step-by-step approach to music literacy for singers, and will show you that learning to read music can be fun!

Why learn to read music???

Professional singers know why it is so important to be able to read music.  Those who read music get hired for studio recording (“session”) work over those who don’t read.  Time is money, and producers and directors want people who can look at a piece of music and sing it “at sight” rather than having to get someone to play it for them first.  Singers who don’t read music are always a step behind, and not considered with the same respect given to “real musicians”.

S
ingers who apply for acceptance to college music programs are required to pass a rigorous sight reading exam, and this is the area in which most students find their greatest challenge.  We can help you pass the sight reading exam with flying colors.

Reading music will free you from dependence on someone to play the song for you, speed up the learning process for any musical endeavor, and ultimately make you more in demand as a singer.
